How to Become an AWS Solutions Architect: Roadmap for Freshers and IT Professionals
A practical roadmap to become an AWS Solutions Architect: core services, certification path, hands-on projects and career roles.
Cloud computing now powers most new business applications, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the most widely used cloud platforms. AWS Solutions Architects design systems that are secure, reliable and cost-effective, which makes it one of the most sought-after cloud roles in India.
What does an AWS Solutions Architect do?
A Solutions Architect decides how an application should run on AWS: which compute, storage, database and networking services to use, how to keep it secure, how to make it survive failures and how to control costs. They work closely with developers, operations teams and business stakeholders.
Core skills to learn
- Compute: EC2, Auto Scaling, load balancing, Lambda and containers
- Storage and databases: S3, EBS, EFS, RDS, Aurora and DynamoDB
- Networking: VPC design, subnets, routing and hybrid connectivity
- Security: IAM, encryption with KMS and the shared responsibility model
- Architecture best practices from the AWS Well-Architected Framework
Certification path
Beginners often start with AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner to learn the basics, then move to AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate. People with some IT or networking background can usually go straight to the Associate level with proper preparation.
Build hands-on projects
Employers look for practical experience, not just certificates. Good portfolio projects include hosting a scalable web application, building a serverless API and designing a multi-tier architecture with backups and monitoring.
Career roles
Common roles include cloud engineer, AWS solutions architect, cloud consultant and DevOps engineer. Many professionals later add Azure or Google Cloud skills to grow into multi-cloud architect roles.
